That's a close call, Jo!! I know, hun! Unfortunately, the hotel isn't exactly popular with those who go to the pub, as the hotel has been trying for the past couple of years to get the pub shut down - probably because it competes directly with their own bar (and is probably a hell of a lot more popular too!!!).... So they've instructed the doorman at that entrance to take photos of anyone standing outside of the pub for more than a few seconds, so that they can use the photos as "evidence" that the pub is causing an obstruction to the hotel's rear entrance!!! So that means that anyone in the pub who wants a smoke can't smoke inside the pub, because that's now illegal, and can't stand in the alleyway at the side of the pub, because they'd then have their picture taken by the hotel staff, so they have to stand in front of the pub on the pavement (sidewalk), which is quite narrow and very busy - and they then risk being told off by the police for causing an obstruction there!!

It's all about the money, Jo! I know, hun... And it'd be such a shame if they succeeded, because the pub has got such an interesting history - Where else can claim to be a pub that Jimi Hendrix was almost thrown out of for falling asleep at one of the tables, and that Keith Moon was thrown out of and banned from for six months after he set off a smoke bomb at the bar???!!!!!..... I don't think the hotel was even built when all of that was going off...... (And that's just a couple of the stories about the pub - think of a band who were big in the late '60s or early '70s and played at the Marquee Club and they probably had at least a few drinks in the pub, as it was where all of the bands playing the Marquee tended to drink before the shows there.... )
