Yeah, that's true - One comment I heard a few days back was someone asking if America was really ready for it's first black president, to which someone else replied that the question should actually be "Is America really ready for it's first black president to be shot?"!!!!!!

There was a recent national poll of registered voters that asked the question "would you vote for a black president?". The result: 17% said no. That's alarming, because you have to figure that many people wouldn't admit that in a poll. So the pecentage has to be much higher than 17%. (I guess were getting a little off topic here.)

I LOVE Obama and his big ears! Anyways, that Sarah Palin one is a shady character, I wouldn't trust her as a VP 17% isn't very high, is it?

17% isn't very high, is it? No it's not, but my point is that many people wouldn't admit in a poll that they will not vote for a black president. So the number is really much higher than 17%.

I'd vote for Obama if I were American. But the problem of him being black exists, because many won't vote him for that reason, although they may not admit that in public. Also, if I'm not mistaken someone was planning to kill him at the convention, and many others will plan to kill him if he gets elected president. It's going to be very difficult for FBI and CIA to grant his safety if he gets elected, and if he gets shot...well, the impact of that event would be huge worldwide, and it would probably set America back a lot of years because if he gets shot it will take a long time before another black man will be chosen as a candidate.

Yeah, I think that, now things are starting to get close, it could be an idea to have a thread specifically for chat about it...

Now that is really bad. Straight off the bat racism. No matter how good this president is, you won't vote for him because of his skin colour! I thought the human race was past this level of racism, obviously Darwin's theory of natural selection is not making a big enough effect!

I think a lot of those who said "no" would probably also tell you that Darwinian evolution is wrong, and that everything in the world is God's work and will...

I think that sadly racism will never truly end, there will always be some idiot who thinks this way...

Guess what, everyone - it's that time again!!
My b/f and I are off to California tomorrow to visit my mom and dad - and also so I can go to the DMV to get my license back - so I won't be here much tomorrow (my brother is already there, as he flew out earlier this week). We've got a 7.30am check-in at Heathrow tomorrow morning, and because its just the two of us, and such an early flight, we're driving ourselves down in the Mini. The only problem is that, because its a three and a half hour drive, and we want to have a break along the way, we've got to be setting off at 3am!!! So, because of that, I'll be trying to get some sleep before we go, and that means I'll not be here this evening.
I may check in with you before we set off, if I get the chance, which will probably be about 2am (that's in about six hours from now). If not, then we're due into San Francisco at about 2.30pm local time Sunday afternoon (9.30pm GMT), and should be home in Marin County about three or four hours after that.
So don't worry when you don't see me logging in here for a while - I'm just on the road (or in the air) again....

Hey, guys! Just a quick post to let you know that we've arrived safely. We've not long got back to the house, and literally just had time to dump our bags in my room, get back downstairs, and fire up the laptop. So I've just got time for a quick post or two here while we're waiting for my mom to get dinner ready. And to answer your question, Chia, we're going to be here for the rest of the week, and will be flying back to the UK next weekend. I don't know if I'll check in again today - I'm still quite tired from the trip, and so will probably go to bed fairly early (I didn't get any sleep on the flight, so I've been awake for a full 24 hours now.... ).
