Ignoring the urgings of her social-climbing father, Devon chooses the company of Trent, who mows the estate's lawns, rather than of the girls her own age. Their friendship grows during her visits to his trailer home, but although it is completely innocent it is obvious that it would be unacceptable to the residents if they found out.IMDB movie page

The term "lawn dog" refers to someone who mows lawns, and the main character, Trent Burns (Rockwell), is doing just that when he meets a lonely 10-year-old girl Devon Stockard (Barton), who comes from a wealthy family in suburban Louisville, Kentucky that has isolated her. Trent lives in a trailer in the woods, and Devon lives in a gated community with a security guard.
They strike up an adventurous friendship, which is later misunderstood by the townspeople, who begin to suspect that Trent is a child molester. (Ironically one of his adversaries is, but Trent is not). The film is in one sense a fairy tale of a 'gated' America, where class hostility and suspicion are the true fuel for violence.

I love this movie and I noticed that she's one of the few actresses that is lovely since she was a little girl...!

I totally agree with james' post - her performance was amazing and undervalued. Just hope it wasn't her finest hour and there's more talent to come

I actually haven't seen this one, I intend on renting it out tomorrow. What's everyone's opinions on it? I think it is a great movie, and for a lot more than just Mischa. A very beautiful, lyrical tale where Sam Rockwell is really amazing. I think it shows Mischa's potential as an actress if she can get back in touch with just being natural and not trying so hard. For those who find her recent roles to be very wooden (I don't totally agree with that assessment but can see it), they should check out this movie. She is very effortless and natural in this role. The same goes for Pups and Lost and Delirious.

I love this movie and I noticed that she's one of the few actresses that is lovely since she was a little girl...! Yep totally agree and put Natalie Portman in that category. As for the movie I thought it was damn good. Quirky, off the wall, different, whatever moniker you want to put on it pretty much fits. I like how Mischas and Sam Rockwells characters were friends and didnt get all weird about it. The other characters in the movie really made it interesting to me. Some bizaar people in that 'hood haha, would be something to live there for sure. If you havent seen it yet, give it a shot, pretty sure you'll like it and as others have stated Mischa's performance really shines especially at that age.
