Barton to attend ‘You and I’ premiere at Cannes
New York, May 7 (IANS) Former “OC” actress Mischa Barton is set to attend the premiere of her lesbian drama “You and I” at the Cannes Film Festival, starting May 14. Barton plays a Russian teen named Lana who falls in love with an American teen after they meet at a t.A.T.u concert.
Strong Irish element at Cannes Film Festival
More than 150 Irish film industry executives will be in the south of France this week for the Cannes Film Festival, which runs from Wednesday until May 25.
A number of Irish films will be screened at Cannes, including The Daisy Chain, starring Samantha Morton; The Escapist, starring Liam Cunningham; and A Film With Me In It, starring Dylan Moran.
Eden, by Offaly-born playwright Eugene O’Brien, will also feature at the festival. It was directed by Declan Recks and recently won the award for Best Actress (Eileen Walsh) at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York.
The Irish Pavilion – a joint marketing initiative between the Irish Film Board and the Northern Ireland Screen – is the Irish film industry’s focal point at Cannes. Irishwoman Louise O’Riordan will also be at the centre of the action, as she is organising an exclusive party, where guests are expected to include Madonna, Guy Ritchie and Mischa Barton.
Sharon Stone, producer Harvey Weinstein, and fashion designer Georgina Chapman are also expected to attend the party onboard a luxury yacht, Pegasus. The party is being hosted by lifestyle group Quintessentially and Margherita Maccapani Missoni of Missoni fashions.
Ten Irish members of Quintessentially are flying by private jet to Cannes for the festival and the party. O’Riordan is managing director of Quintessentially in Ireland, and is also the company’s global brand director along with celebrity stylist Edward O’Sullivan.
‘‘There is a lot of intrigue around the Cannes festival, and we want to open up the gates to the festival to our members,” said O’Riordan. The party, to be held on Friday, will raise funds for Orphan Aid Africa, a non-profit organisation that helps children in Ghana, west Africa.
Irish membership to Quintessentially costs €3,750, with a one-off joining fee of €350.Members get a 24-hour concierge service, to carry out jobs from organising holidays to shopping and parties.
