Thanks for the welcomes back - OMG, how I've missed you all, even though it's only been a couple of days! Oh, well, let's see now - what can I tell you?... We all had loads of fun, which I guess is the main thing, isn't it? It was a bit cold, as there was a fair bit of snow around, but the van had a good heater in it, so we stayed warm enough during the nights - and I had my 6-foot hot water bottle to snuggle up with too... The campsite we were on was basically a field behind a pub, which was really great, as they did really nice food there and had a great selection of proper "real ales", so I was well happy with that! And it was run by a really nice couple too, who made us feel really welcome. I think they were glad to have us there, as a lot of people had canceled their bookings for the campsite when they'd seen the weather forecast for the weekend, so we virtually had the place to ourselves (the campsite, not the pub!). Of course, as soon as they saw me and heard me open my mouth, they had all the usual questions for me - Where in America was I from? How long had I been in the UK? Did I like it here? And, of course, how long had we been married??! ;D Like most people, they were quite surprised when I told them I was actually as English as they were, and just lived in the US now, and that my b/f and I weren't actually married - yet... But they soon got over that, and we had some really nice chats with them and spent most of the days there in the pub (It was way too cold to go wandering around!!). So, what else is there? Oh yeah - I managed to stay off the van roof! And the most surreal moment of the whole weekend was definitely late on Saturday night. We'd left the pub and gone back to the van, where we rounded off the evening with a rather posh supper. There we were, sat in a campervan in the middle of a snowy field, some Grateful Dead on the CD player, having a supper of Champagne and Caviar - Just how surreal is that???!!!!! ;D So yeah, it was a very nice weekend away, which we all really enjoyed a lot - even if it was a bit chilly at times!

It sounds cool, Jo, literally. What's the name of a "true ale"? I like to experiment. And the Greatful Dead music validates the fact that you're a hippie!

As does the fact that my dad & I once shared a smoke with Tom Constanten, who was a member of the Dead from 1968-70... And there's hundreds of proper "real ales" around, hun - most produced by tiny little breweries who only distribute to their local areas, although some of the larger ones do distribute nationally. One of my favourites is Theakston's "Old Peculiar", which is quite strong at about 5.5%. Then there's Adnam's "Broadside", which is about 6.3%. And some of the others go up to around 8%, so they're a hell of a lot stronger than most of the stuff you get in the US! And then there's the ciders, which are even stronger than that - proper "scrumpy", which is the unfiltered stuff from places like Devon, is around 12%, so it's proper "loopy juice"!!!!!

Sounds like you had a lot of fun, Jo! I love going camping, but I've not been for absolutely ages. I've never been in a camper van, 'though...
