Everyone's happy! Chia, out of interest, how did you fix it? P.S. What does "ETA" mean? I thought it meant 'Estimated Time of Arrival'. I am not sure I fixed it hon, lol. It looked like but...*shrugs* ETA = Edit To Add !

It looked like but...*shrugs* ETA = Edit To Add ! Thanks for getting back to me anyway . Greg, can u give me programming course here I kinda failed that course ;D That's a shame . I am not exactly a prolific programmer, but I am pretty good at Visual Basic .Net 2008 and can make basic console programs in C++ using classes, objects, functions, references, iteraters etc. What specifically where you having problems with?

My laptop is fixed!!!!!! Oh, it was so simple, really!!..... I found a copy of the workshop manual for my laptop as a PDF file, and in the bit about BIOS beeps, the very first line matched my symptoms (hard drive spins up, screen stays blank, very long beep which repeats...). According to the manual, this means a memory problem... - And the solution? Take one of the two memory chips out and try and boot the machine. If it boots OK, then that chip has failed. If not, put the first chip back in, take the other one out and try again. If it boots OK that time, then its the second chip which has failed. So I took out the first chip, tried booting up, and it worked!!! So I'm now back online again, although only on half memory at the moment. But I'm back online, and that's the important thing, isn't it?

hahaha my problem is not understanding whole programming sense using classes, objects, functions, references, iteraters waoww so you are good at c++ I really am not, I just have a great teacher and get given really useful examples which I can check back on. I'm rubbish at remembering statements, but as long as you have the knowledge of what they do behind you, it is just a matter of reading some past examples. My laptop is fixed!!!!!! Oh, it was so simple, really!!..... Without beeps it definitely made me sure it was a motherboard failure, but that changes everything! Anyway, glad you fixed it, no-one should be without the internet, especially when this forum is on it!

*Ahem* I am an idiot, you did mention the beep, good Sir. Beep codes are phenomenally useful for understanding what the problem could be, as long as you have the correct documentation.
I think it does not even reach the POST because it didn't want to risk any damage to your PC.
Lesson learned!
