The set of the movie was in Asheville, North Carolina. Movie filmed back in November, 2006.
A news blurb:
"Could it be that low-budget indie-flick Don’t Fade Away will be the first film to truly capture the cultural essence of downtown Asheville? The $1.7 million cinematic vehicle for The O.C. star Mischa Barton has booked a surprising number of local haunts for the shoot. According to sources within the production company, locations such as Barley’s, the Orange Peel, Haywood Park Hotel and The Mountaineer Inn — not to mention the local Hooters — will be used for shooting. But the reflection of local culture doesn’t appear to end there, as an outdoor music event bearing a striking similarity to the Lake Eden Arts Festival will also appear in the film. Strangely, the film appears to have practically no online presence — typically considered to be a key buzz-building tool for indie productions — and even the film’s title doesn’t appear on search engines such as the Internet Movie Database. This makes confirming some rumors, such as the cameo appearance of rapper Ja Rule in the film, difficult at best. The film is set to wrap local production at the end of November." Source: Mountain X

Times-News sets scene for indie film:Film crews and cast, along with trucks, lighting and sound equipment, filled the parking lots and building Saturday at the Times-News for the filming of a scene in an upcoming film, "Don't Fade Away." The independent film is the fictionalized account of the life and death of Chris Codd, the father of the screenwriter and director, Luke Kasdan of Brooklyn, N.Y. Actor Beau Bridges portrays newspaperman Codd in the film. "Last year my father got sick and I brought him up here to spend his last months with his family in Fairview," Kasdan, 26, said. During those months, Kasdan experienced life in a more meaningful way. "I wanted to do a film of value, that has meaning," Kasdan said. Too many films today are skewed toward a value system of materialism and celebrity, he said. "A lot of people looked at the script," Kasdan said. "Beau Bridges read it and responded. Some really talented people are passionate about the film and care about it." Kasdan's father grew up in Miami, working most of his life in Tallahassee, Fla. Many of his family members moved to the Fairview area in the 1990s. "My father was a journalist by trade," Kasdan said. The scene filmed Saturday at the Times-News depicts the newspaperman's son clearing out his father's office after the father becomes too sick to work. The son is portrayed by actor Ryan Kwanten, who played the lead in the film "Flicka" and soon-to-be-released Universal film "Dead Silence." "The son is emotionally distant," Kasdan said of the character. "He left his Southern roots behind and found a successful career, but a shell of a life." Mischa Barton, model and actress in the Fox show "The O.C.," portrays the "soulmate" of the son.
"She's a troubled young woman who interned at the local newspaper," Kasdan said.Private investors financed the film, he said. The photography shoots for the film will end after the first week in December in New York. The film will then enter the editing process. "We will take it to film festivals," Kasdan said. "The festivals are film markets for distributors. If lucky, one will buy it and put it out in the world." www.blueridgenow.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20061119/NEWS/611190364/1042/NEWS

We next spoke with Lawson. Into every generation, one slayer is chosen—or so we thought, until Kendra showed up in Season Two. Although the Jamaican slayer died early on in the series, Lawson has remained firm in the heart of Buffy fans around the world. We caught up with Lawson to ask about her upcoming role in “Don’t Fade Away,” starring Mischa Barton, as well as how it feels to still be famous for her “Buffy” role. What are some of your upcoming projects?LAWSON: I have a film called “Don’t Fade Away” with Mischa Barton and Beau Bridges in the star role, and a thriller that was called “Primeval,” but now they’ve changed the title, and I don’t know what it’s called now. ..._ BiancaLawson.net [an unofficial fan resouce] _...Wizard Entertainment
